Happy Birthday Sneaker

Me: Susie, what do you want to do for your birthday?

Her: How about if we find someone to watch the kids and we go on a bike ride together?

Me: OK!

Her longest ride so far, in her new duds . . . 22 miles, 14.3 average mph . . . out to Los Osos, Frappacino at the turn, down Southbay and around Turri. . . . she could have done another 22 . . . at least.

Her: That was big. Now I'm ready to ride with Julie! (Tork's wife)

Look Who I Saw

Wow, boyz! Didn't take you long at all to get the hang of this blog thing. Very nice chatter today. The Hobbit even figured out how to upload pics. What will tomorrow bring?

So I'm out for a little lactate spin on O'Connor . . . call it a Sneaker if you must . . . and I pull up on this bookin' chick rider and its. . .

MY WIFE!

Susie and a couple other wives have jumped in and committed to the SLO Triathalon in July. Having never been on a road bike before, she started out spinning on Chad's trainer in our living room while watching the Office on Hulu.

Today was her first time in clips, first time on the road and first time in spandex in public. She did great. She's a natural. We drove down there and we rode together from foothill to just past the military gate by Cuesta. Tomorrow, I'll take the kids out there and she'll do it twice. This is a great uncrowded road to get her used to the bike and the road before she has to deal with traffic.

She seems to be having a good time. . . starting slow and steady, trying to do something for a half an hour every day. Swimming is her thing, so she'll add that last. Fun to watch her get all focussed. She's just like the rest of us, but don't tell her that.

I'm fired up, because this will be our future together. . . two old people on bikes together!

A few other random follow up thoughts. . .

• I was thinking we should change the title of the blog to "One Source Fitness" since some of us are doing more than one thing. The Hobbit, for example, is training for a 26+ mile trail run out in Montana de Oro. . . or maybe not, now that he got that new bike. I like to run . . . kind of. Some have done and are planning to do some triathalons. . .. what do you think? Is cycling too narrow?
  
  
• I had the thought today it would be fun to get the wives involved in the blog, if we could. At least 3 of them are currently training for something. And we know they can smack talk. Do you think they'd play along?
  
  
• I can do the schedule early next week. Was thinking the same thing. I'd like to see a post where we share our fitness goals as we head toward the summer.
  
  
• Anybody got another survey question, since the current survey is DONE?
  
  
• I can go with "Levi" in place of "Mr. Clean." I see it.
