Tuesday Lunch Ride
I think I'm gonna do a quick lunch ride Tuesday. I know it isn't the best time for some, but figured I'd throw it out. Leaving Grace at 12:30, roll out to Port San Luis and back. Should be able to do it in about an hour. Respond via comment!

Prodigal Bike
Lost my bike out of the back of Tim's pickup Friday morning but check out the e-mail I got today...
Hey dude,
I have your bike. I work at the forest service station on high mountain road the bike is at the station. The address is 460 High mountain rd.
A reward is not necessary but if you feel so inclined we would be thankful if you brought over some cases of coors light. we get kinda thirsty after work.
We found the bike right by the dam we pulled over and loaded it up into our car. When we got to the station we called lopez lake and told them and they said we just missed you. We asked if you left your name and number but you didn't so thats why i went on craigslist. My name is Stephan My cell is 1805 915 7345 the station number is 1805 481 1280 we are here until 430pm today and we start back up at 800am.
alright brother im glad i could help get your bike back to you.

I haven't done a checkout to see what is broken but it looks pretty good other than a rear wheel flat and some scuffs... The guys at the Forest service station seemed liked good guys... and they liked the 3 cases of Coors light I brought! Thanks guys for grabbing and returning my bike!
I must admit that I was already thinking about the new bike that I would inevitably buy (more travel and different frame configuration), but my returned bike looks pretty sweet!

Another Sad Story
I'm tired of this:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,568419,00.html?test=faces
Look at the last paragraph:
"While testifying, Nantz admitted to having a 29-year-old girlfriend. He said he met the woman while promoting a book he wrote about his father in May, 2008, the Connecticut Post reported. Nantz only began the extramarital affair, he claimed, because his marriage "died," years ago, the Connecticut Post quoted him as saying to the court."

Friday Afternoon MTB - MDO
Details of MTB ride with Linked guys tomorrow.
Meet: Trailhead of Ridge Trail in MDO (Dirt parking lot lot just before you get to spooners)
Time: 3PM
Length: ~ 2 hours
The trails out in MDO should be great after the rains and a couple days of good weather.
I will be hanging out there in the evening as well to enjoy fellowship with these guys. (Angel/Yankee playoff game has nothing to do with it!)
Roadie today up Old Creek was awesome! Great group of guys to share the ride with and an absolutely perfect riding day. They were in awe taking in the scenery, which made me realize how good we have it around here.
I hope to see you all out there tomorrow.....should be perfect conditions for MDO!

Thursday Mid-Day Road Ride
What???????? Mid-Day Ride?????????????? How can that be???????????
Out of towners, thats how! The first handful of the "Linked Cycling" crew is coming into town tomorrow and wants to go road ride while waiting on the dirt to dry out for a weekend full of Mountain Rides. So tomorrows plan is this:
Meet: OBrien Ranch
Time: 10:00am
Route: From LO over through MB, up to Cayucos. Head up Whale Rock and then up Old Creek. Back down and back to OBrien Ranch.
Anyone interested in joining tomorrow? Post so it is known to expect you.
More posts of weekend mtb rides to come......There are ~15 OC boys coming to check out the SLO trails. They are renting a house by the OBrien ranch and there will be lots of hang time going on out there as well. (Sweet hill top house!) I will try to get an agenda from them as well to let you all know what is going on. They desire for any/all of us to come by and hang as much as we want.
Post if you are in for tomorrow 10am.....

Lopez Trail System May Expand

For those of you who are on the fence about whether to join us for trail
work next weekend because you seldom ride there please read on.
Are you tired of having to drive south or to SLO or the coast to ride
because you live in South County? You are not alone! CCCMB is trying to
change that by improving the trail system at Lopez Lake. Lopez has huge
potential as a riding destination. It has a small but core trail system
which is ripe for improvement and expansion. CCCMB, working with County
Parks and Recreation staff and other groups including SLOPOST, has begun the
process of creating a trail improvement plan for the park. That plan, when
approved, will lead to many more miles of truly rideable trail. The goal is
to make Lopez Lake a true riding destination. A place where the trail
system is large enough to provide a varied riding experience while
distributing use so that the trails can be sustainable and not destroyed by
overly concentrated use.
If you would like to help make Lopez Lake a much better place to ride
1. Join us on October 11th to begin work on a new trail! 9:00 main entrance
2. Contact Bill Jenkins (Lopez) at bill@cccmb.org.
He will be glad to get you involved.
Thanks Greg

Cycling Rites of Passage
The November 2009 issue of Bicycling magazine has a funny look at the 109 Rites of passage (or momentous occasions in the life of a cyclist) and asks the question 'How many of these seminal moments have you experienced?' (page 46). Here are some of my favorites...
- being unable to sleep the night after you first shave your legs, because of the tingle of bed sheets next to your legs
- when your bike computer registers triple digits for one ride
- you get stuck in your pedals and topple over at a stoplight
- In your head Phil Ligget narrates your ride (love that one!)
- getting so deep into the sport you think your helmet looks good
- watching the compressed CO2 from your only canister shoot off into the air instead of into the tube
- deciding which car to buy in part based on how it will carry your bikes
- you see someone at the beach tanned low on the quads and biceps, and give him a nod of recognition
- matching your bar tape to your tire's sidewall, then realizing on your next ride that your bike looks like it's been decorated by a blind pimp (LOL)
- seeing a sunrise from a saddle
Check out the list of 109, you'll be surprised how many you can relate to... what is one of your 'seminal moments' on the bike??
