Cycling Rites of Passage

The November 2009 issue of Bicycling magazine has a funny look at the 109 Rites of passage (or momentous occasions in the life of a cyclist) and asks the question 'How many of these seminal moments have you experienced?' (page 46). Here are some of my favorites...

- being unable to sleep the night after you first shave your legs, because of the tingle of bed sheets next to your legs

- when your bike computer registers triple digits for one ride

- you get stuck in your pedals and topple over at a stoplight

- In your head Phil Ligget narrates your ride (love that one!)

- getting so deep into the sport you think your helmet looks good

- watching the compressed CO2 from your only canister shoot off into the air instead of into the tube

- deciding which car to buy in part based on how it will carry your bikes

- you see someone at the beach tanned low on the quads and biceps, and give him a nod of recognition

- matching your bar tape to your tire's sidewall, then realizing on your next ride that your bike looks like it's been decorated by a blind pimp (LOL)

- seeing a sunrise from a saddle

Not a hammer ride but we'll keep a healthy pace.

Plan to go up the coast Wed AM. Meet at Highland and Hwy 1 at 6:30 am. Either to Cayucous and back Turri, or up to Harmony and back depending on riders and time. Earlier turn around ok.

Sat morning roadie - Two Routes

Meet: Grace Church in downtown SLO

Time: Rolling at 6:45

Route: We will all roll together at a mellow pace out Edna Valley. Short Route will cut across Tiffany Ranch to Broad and head back to town. Long Route will pick up south county riders at Lopez Rd and head out to the lake. Route back will climb back on 227/Broad as well.

Come one come all! Hope to see lots of riders out there this weekend.....

Meet at O'Brien ranch at 0630 for a 1 1/2 hour ride.

Ride the mountain, it's so funs,

don't "crash" like Cade,

you'll hurt your buns.

Meet at the ranch,

we'll keep it short,

some of us have school,

and some have court.......

Meeting at Crash's house: Rolling at 6:30
Crash will pick the route, but it will be pretty mello. Out to Lopez and back? Out wasna, etc...?
Expecting to ride somewhere in the 25-30 mile range......done somewhere around 8-8:15
Handful of us in now. If interested in joining and dont know where Crash lives, post a request to have directions sent to you with an email address to do so.

Saturday Morning Road Ride - Two Routes

Meet at Grace Church: Rolling out at 6:45 (First Light)
We will roll to Port San Luis all together. On the way back you have the option to climb up see cyn over to perfumo, or you can come back on the frontage road back to town. (Much easier)
One route gives a good challenging climb and the other is a steady ride back.
All will ride down to Port San Luis together at a pace where all will stay together.
If you opt to go up See Cyn, you are on your own, then a regroup at the top. That group will then determine what route to finish on from there.

Take your pick.........Mello or challenging.
I hear of a good 6 guys interested in riding so far, so jump in!

Put on the lights again!

If you wanna go - light mountain ride. Start at Marsh parking lot at base of Madonna. Up and around, 1 1/2 hours max (cut it short if you need to get to work).

5:30 am start time, would love to see anyone and everyone there!
