- being unable to sleep the night after you first shave your legs, because of the tingle of bed sheets next to your legs
- when your bike computer registers triple digits for one ride
- you get stuck in your pedals and topple over at a stoplight
- In your head Phil Ligget narrates your ride (love that one!)
- getting so deep into the sport you think your helmet looks good
- watching the compressed CO2 from your only canister shoot off into the air instead of into the tube
- deciding which car to buy in part based on how it will carry your bikes
- you see someone at the beach tanned low on the quads and biceps, and give him a nod of recognition
- matching your bar tape to your tire's sidewall, then realizing on your next ride that your bike looks like it's been decorated by a blind pimp (LOL)
- seeing a sunrise from a saddle
Check out the list of 109, you'll be surprised how many you can relate to... what is one of your 'seminal moments' on the bike??

Hmmm? So many, where to start?
-realizing dura ace really wont make me any faster... Damn, but it looks good anyways!
-realizing that my new Yeti really does make me happy. That Art's Owner Scott Smith has a clever point...
-remembering when down tube integrated shifting and SIS was the real deal. I am getting older and loving technology...
-enjoying the fact that hairy leg newbies wearing camel backs on the road can really ride bikes. And even faster than you might think...
-getting more satisfaction in the growth of others in the sport, rather than my own... Why did this take so long?
-finally realizing and listening to my wife that cycling socks worn with regular clothing really does look dorky...
-making sure my bike is on my side of the vehicle and my wifes is on her side. Boy we are some vein male roadies... You know you have all done that... Early marriage and personality flaw.
-make route changes, when you see a group go by, and the blood spills in the water. Full blown land shark mode! We've all done it. Even my mom has! We love to call it, victims ahead... Ala Theule brothers!
Even though many wont admit it, we are all peacocks on the porch. It's time for another read.
Great post Doc - bring the mag on Thursday so I can read it and laugh...
Having to unsuit multiple times before a morning ride because you know why.
Having to unsuit at someones house (even worse) after they have gracious provided you with coffee.
Wearing white knees and arms because that is bling bling. Who does that?
Not wearing arms and legs because you want to get tan.
Getting denied on post-ride affection attempts with the wifey.
- Stating with full confidence when I was solely a mountain biker that I would NEVER be caught dead in spandex on a bike! Then before I knew it I was walking around the house in bibs, nothing else, to get a reaction from the wife! Lets just say the affection was not flowing from that sight......
- Realizing fully that the hairy leg / camel back comment earlier was direct jab at me and my stubbornness to conform.
- Starting to see the enjoyment of others getting on the bike and watching them conquer hurdles as better than doing it myself.
- Seeing puking at the top of a climb as a good thing! If you aint puking you aint trying, right?
- Seeing the whole group rally around a bonking rider on a long ride, giving him "fivers" up the hills. Love the team effort and fellowship aspect to our group. Whats a "fiver" again Torque.......I forget?
- Riding a long ride in literally freezing temps and ending up with frost bite on the 11th tip. Man did that shower hurt.....
BTW - Still holding out on the leg shaving and fully believe I will NEVER take that jump! Famous last words.....I dont think so.....
Levi
wearing man-tights (enough said)
admiring the quads of the riders on the tour. did i just say that?
learning that just because "every hill's a race" doesn't mean that I should try, especially when i KNOW i don't have a chance.
learning that every hill isn't really a race and enjoying the hard pulls with the guys (sans accordion effect)
getting dropped off a paceline and having just enough breath left to tell your friend in the back that you have to get home (as he gives you that knowing look that says, "sure buddy."
hydrating so much before a ride that you have to piss 15 mins in. oh yeah, and wearing a bib for the first time and pissing all down your leg because it never occurred to you that you could just pull the bib down instead of the d___ out.
- riding 100 miles in 100 degree heat in so cal. Back in the day...
- bonking and ice skating all the way across the sales floor under the watchful eye of the middle eastern sales attendent at AM/PM. Perfect 10! Cleats on hard floor...
- Turkey day 100 at the halfway with 50 riders. All of us pounding our supplements, power bards, etc. at 7 eleven as my brother pounds a cold can of chef boy ardee raviolis and a can of pepsi and proceeds to shell 49 riders over Supelveda Pass including yours truly. I guess I don't get it...
- sticking to the sheets for 4 weeks and every time the wind blows and you get chicken skin, your screech wakes the dead. Full blown road rash! Have you had it yet...?
- When you thought steel is real... Carbon, it is whats for dinner!
- bought a trek, because Lance road one!
- One of the few that believes Lance is an anomoly and does not dope... Bring it fellas!
- descending faster than the freeway traffic on the ridge route. Don't tell my wife... Woops, this is pre-Jenn!
- Outsprinting everyone on your home turf... Even Mike Easter.
- taking credit to place Easter on a road bike...
- knowing who the terror of tashkent is???
- still not knowing what the four letter word "fred" meant to the cycling world!
- Remembering who Rominger was! Never won the tour...
- placing more in your jersey pockets than could be stored in a grocery bag...
- remebering being like Kyle Theule when my dad woke me for a 20 mile road ride before school. Remember these times lil' Kyle...
- watching my mom and dad at age 66 and 69 pound out 30-40 miles in the big ring...
- telling my dad we are doing 70 at 70...
Fun to think about this stuff and share.
