110, 17, 15+, 2, 1

Even though the word "epic" is a bit worn out, it must be used to describe SB to SLO 2011. 110 miles traveled, 17 riders, 15+ flat tires along the way, 2 crashes, 1 lost rider near the finish! A number of PR's were set for mileage, some first time century people on board -- nice job!
Now for the awards...
Most skin lost: Sean C
Best PR: Tad W
Best new rider effort: Ron J
Most committed: Rick W (His son was graduating that afternoon and his wife was wondering why he was even going on the ride)
Best friend: Ricky (came all the way from Oregon to ride with Sean)
Best Fan support: Dan W (wife and daughter were on State st. cheering when we got there)
Best SAG support: Ron J (wife picked him up in Lompoc)
Guess that's it, got to get to work, nice job everyone!

Good news is light winds.
See you all tomorrow!

South County

Although I would love a run up the coast with Brian, my schedule precludes it. Several departing my driveway at 630am for Lopez to Ranchita ride. Hour up and back likely. Gotta be back to my house between 830.

Korey, Tim, Sean, and potentially Rudy.

Will be rolling by 635 no later.

Saturday Ride - SLO to 46 to Old Creek to SLO??

Anyone up for a pre-SB ride this Saturday morning? From Grace up 1 to 46 to Old Creek and back to SLO. About 75 miles. Roll from Grace at 7am.

Who's in? I think I'm going regardless..............!

SB ride update

Just a few last details for next weeks ride... Meeting place is my house: 5752 Pebble beach Wy in the SLO country club estates (tell the guard at the gate you are coming to my house), there is plenty of parking in the cul de sac where I live if you are driving here. Rolling time is 6:30 sharp! If you are the type to be late then never mind 6:30, your time is 6:00! If you want to chat it up with the guys while you prep, then your time is 6:00. Bring enough $$ to get food on the way, get food in SB and take care of any other needs you might have?? You will probably want to change your clothes in SB prior to your return (or at least anyone you are coming back with will want you to change), just bring a backpack with your stuff and leave it in my SUV, Karen will bring it down when she comes. There are 3 ways to get home; train, have someone pick you up, ride your bike back(good luck finding takers for this). The train has a few times coming back, around 3:30 and around 5:30, if you plan to ride the train you are responsible for researching your options, purchasing a ticket etc... If I were riding the train back, I'd pre-purchase my ticket (I'm anal -- I'm a dentist -- what would you expect..) As a reminder, we will make 4 stops before we reach the SB Wharf: Guadelupe(gas store), Lompoc(longer stop for food fueling - we stop at a starbucks but there is also a gas station convenience store nearby), Gaviota(no store avail.), Goletta(starbucks and other food). Remember to bring 2 water bottles(preferably full to start), money, your phone, gels, bars, pills, syringes... Dress with layers, typically we have rolled with over-cast skies and ridden into the sun -- be prepared for both. In the past we have taken a swim at my hotel but this year our group is bigger and the hotel can't accommodate this -- sorry. We have had a tradition of eating pizza at Rusty's down near the wharf and that is still very much on -- you may be surprised at how much pizza you'll be able to consume after a 110 mile ride. If you need any other info about this ride, please contact me directly. This is a great ride that we have really enjoyed in the past, let's keep the tradition and fun going... See you on the 17th

Wednesday roadie

Rain is washing out this weekend, so to get one last long one in before June 17, I'm proposing a ride next Wednesday, June 8. Looking to go to Hearst Castle and back. I realize this is midweek, but am hoping for more company than my iPhone!
Meet at Grace at 6:30 a.m. and hit it before the wind sets in.

Saturday roadie

Looking for about 3 hours in the saddle on Saturday with mixed terrain, so would like to head out Orcutt to Lopez Lake and Hi Mtn Road for 1.5 hours, then turn around and head back. 7 a.m. start at Grace. Can also pick up guys en route. Appreciate some company.

Santa Barbara ride

Last reminder about the Santa Barbara ride. Friday June 17 leave my house at 6:30am sharp. Mileage is about 110 miles, some climbing on the route but it's not super tough. Make your own arrangements for the return (train or someone picking you up). We will make 4 stops on the way down: Guatelupe, Lompoc, Gaviota, Goletta. Bring $ to buy food, bring any bars or gels you think you'll need in addition. If you are planning on coming then respond to this blog.

Solvang TT - May 20

If you wish to join, a ride is planned from AG to Solvang on the day of the time trial in Solvang. The ride is approximately 70 miles. First half flat, and the second half bumpy. The ride start is 7am. Many of the riders will be hanging with their families at the time trial and enjoying the ToC scene. So the return trip will be determined upon the interest by other riders and your response to this post.

The Solvang TT stage is a great way for cycling enthusiasts to witness the color of the race and really see what goes on in the support of the pro cycling field. You will see equipment and team support that is world class. Not to mention see a very pivotal stage in the race.

For some of you that require a shower in the end, you may pay for a shower head at the local YMCA. For those more manly types, you can wipe down in the parking lot and load and lock your gear. Not sure of the interest at this point, so will not leave those details until we hear some responses.

So far, Rudy Bachmann, Korey Carroll, and yours truly are riding. Let me know if you are interested.

If you read this, pray for the safety of my father (Jeff) who is one of the lead moto marshalls in the race for the entire stage race. He leaves Friday for Tahoe, CA for his 5th tour contribution. Thankful for all their dedication to keeping the road safe for these riders...

Take care all,

Saturday roadie

Hi all: Tim graciously invited me to post, so here goes: 6:30 a.m. roll out from Grace. South on Higuera-Ontario to Pismo. Up Price Canyon to Highway 227. Those who want to break off can head back to SLO. Those who want more can go up Corbett Cyn. Second chance to break off at Tiffany Ranch, or keep going on Corbett to Lopez Lake Drive. Those in for the long haul can come back to SLO via Orcutt.
The more in the peloton, the better!
Tad

I'm going to hit the MTB for an hour or so at 7:15 AM after the Thursday morning study at 6:00. Its going to be a beautiful morning, if anyone wants to join me. I can watch your back, since I haven't been on a bike since India or maybe the 1st of the year. Yikes!

Leave a comment, if you can make it. . . . hardly Rabbit
